Thoughts from the Weekend and MLS News
Here are my thoughts about my 2 teams this past weekend… DC UNITED Umm…I thought I was supposed to watch DC United v Seattle Sounders FC this past Saturday. What I saw was Seattle was there. The DC fans were there. The refs showed up. The only thing missing was the home team. United looked horrible in this match. I don’t even know where to start. Wicks could have saved the first goal in 2 ways. First off the reason why Zakuani even touched the ball was because Wicks stayed glued on his line when a ball got past the United defense. He should have come out to beat Zakuani. Since he didn’t come off his line the next best thing would have been to go to the ground to try and make the save. But he didn’t do that either and that is the reason Zakuani hit him in the 5-hole and in the back of the net. Rodney Wallace was lucky to be in the right place at the right time for his goal. I do have to say it was a very well taken shot and will proabbaly save his palce on the team since his stock as been dropping as of late. Mostly due to his lack of defense and “stupid” mistakes. FULHAM The Cottagers were able to pull off their 2nd win of the season with goals from Paul Konchesky and Damien Duff. The scoring started from an Everton goal from Cahill, but Fulham led this match with passion and definitely deserved the win. Clint Dempsey came very close on numerous occasions taking shots on his US National teammate Tim Howard. The Cottagers next play away to CSKA Sofia on Thursday in the Europa league. The next Premier League match is on Sunday when they play away to Wolverhampton. MLS Major League Soccer announced today that they will not play during the group stages of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The last matches will play on June 10th and will not pick up until after June 25th. They will also not hold matches the day of the Semi-Finals and the Finals. This is a very smart move for the league considering they will not get as many fans out for matches having to compete with the world’s most watched competition. |
