Weekend Review

Now I know what it’s like to be a Red Bull fan. All of the teams I was watching over the weekend all lost. I just couldn’t believe it. Let me run through it real quick.

Fulham lost a heartbreaker to Arsenal 1-0 after a Robin van Persie goal. This was a tough home loss for the Cottagers. Schwarzer came up big making 9 saves and preventing Arsenal from hitting the net a few more times.

The VCU Rams Men’s Soccer team opened up conference play this past Saturday against George Mason University. This was not a good showing by the Rams. Mason came away with the 1-0 win. VCU needs to find a playmaker in the center of the field. A lot of the play seemed confused and lost, giving up several easy turnovers.

And then there’s DC United. Going into the match, the idea was simple. We’re playing a team that has not won on the road since June 2008 and is in last place (since everyone has given up on New York). Should be an easy win. The final score…2-1…San Jose. This was more than a huge loss for United. The fans have started chants of “Fire Soehn” and things are beginning to get ugly. I’ve noticed things just don’t seem right with the club. When Jaime Moreno put in his 130th MLS goal, there was very little celebration. Something just doesn’t seem right with the team right now. Most likely it has to do with their poor performance as of late, but I think it’s more. Something is wrong in the locker room and it’s being brought out to the field. This could be the reason for the decline in United’s play and want for the playoffs. I think at this point, the talent is there. The will is not. Something needs to shake up this team, in a good way. I’m going to make an entire post about this later but I wanted to throw this idea out.

Hopefully things will turn around with all 3 teams or else I might go into a dark depression…
