Looks like after bashing England on their attempts to make a bid for the 2018 World Cup, Jack Warner has proposed using “sin-bins” (simply put: a penalty box) for anyone who takes a dive during a match. The idea would be the player would be sent off for 5 minutes while play resumes, much like hockey’s penalty box.
This has to be one of the stupidest ideas I’ve ever heard. If FIFA wants to crack down on simulation during matches, I think a 5th official should be assigned to each match, who will sit in front of a video monitor and watch the match and looks for simulation. With the communication system used by the refs, the 5th official would easily be able to communicate to the ref on the field if he feels that a play was simulation instead of a foul. This way a yellow card could be properly given, which I feel is worse than having a player step off the field for 5 minutes. A team could kill time until the player could be allowed on the field. A yellow is a more direct punishment that could set up the player for ejection.
I’m really beginning to wonder how long it will be before people start calling for Jack Warner to leave…
